Anyone who's active on social media has probably noticed that the term "date cancelled" has been blowing up lately. From plans falling through because of weird texting habits, outfits that seem low-effort, to things that actually look minor… but can apparently cause an instant turn-off in a matter of minutes.
Funny thing is, a lot of people think they're "totally fine," when without realizing it they have small habits that make others immediately second-guess meeting up. Especially now that the context of a date isn't always about dating. It could be a first meet, a casual hangout, meeting a mutual, networking, or just a simple outing.
So, before you become a date cancelled victim, or unknowingly become the reason for one, check these things first!
1. Alay Typing
Being casual while chatting is fine, but take a look at the other person's vibe first. Don't let the way you type, your jokes, or your chat style that you think is funny end up making the other person uncomfortable. Sometimes small things like spamming typos, too many abbreviations, or over-texting can actually make people think twice about meeting up. Not because they're turned off, but because they're worried the energy won't balance out.
2. Not Paying Attention to Oral Hygiene
This is something that's often brushed off as minor, but it actually matters quite a bit when you meet in person. A mouth that isn't well taken care of can make people uncomfortable during close-range conversations. Bad breath, food stuck in your teeth, or teeth that are rarely maintained often quietly knock your confidence down without you even realizing it.
3. Complaining Too Much
Only been chatting for a week but the conversation is already full of complaints? Tired from work, traffic, office drama, life being heavy… Venting every once in a while is fine. But if the energy coming out is constantly negative, the date atmosphere can immediately turn uncomfortable. People generally prefer talking to someone whose vibe is light and enjoyable.
